Bid to prevent flash flooding

BULWELL is at the forefront of a bid by Nottingham City Council to reduce the risk of flash flooding.
A recent strategic flood risk assessment for the River Leen has highlighted the need for such action in Bulwell.
Coun Alan Clark, the council's lead member for neighbourhood regeneration and a Labour member for Bulwell Forest ward, said: "Good planning and design can make a positive contribution to climate change.
"The recent heavy rainstorms show the importance of using design to handle stormwater surges, so we are keen to encourage such features of new developments."
Green grass-alternative sedum roofs, which allow water to soak away gradually, are proposed for new buildings which include the proposed Bulwell Academy on the River Leen School site in Hucknall Lane.
"Such features can reduce the effects of heavy rainfall rushing into drains and watercourses and creating surges that can cause flooding and damage," says Coun Clark.
