CALLOUS burglars broke into a Bulwell care-home and stole two televisions that had been bought with money raised by the elderly residents.
The break-in happened at 4 am last Sunday at the Marlstones home on Aldgate Close, off Rock Street.

The residents, aged between 65 and 99, had raised the cash for the 37-inch flat screen plasma televisions with bring-and-buy sales, sponsored walks and barbecues.

Celia Broughton, manager of the home, said: "It is absolutely awful. How dare someone do this? Everyone worked so hard to raise the money to buy the televisions.

"I want to bring the theft to the public's attention to hopefully prick someone's conscience. Someone must know something.

"Now in the home we just have two small portable TVs that the residents can barely see."

CCTV images from the home show four people climbing a fence to escape with the heavy TVs.

One of them was spotted inside the home by a member of the night-staff but he was too shocked to do anything.

Mrs Broughton said: "He was shocked to see someone moving about in the home at that time of night and just screamed.

"The police arrived very quickly and were very helpful. They are going to look at the CCTV footage."

None of Marlstones' 48 residents were disturbed during the break-in.
