LONG-term unemployment in Bulwell has been slashed, the town's Labour MP has revealed.
Graham Allen has welcomed the latest statistics that show the number of jobless is down by 71% since 1997 in his Nottingham North constituency, which includes Bulwell.

He said: "For decades, unemployment was a terrible blight on the life-chances of people in Bulwell. In the 1980s, three million unemployed people was a 'price worth paying' according to successive Conservative
governments. Not any more.

"The latest figures mean that more than 1,000 people who were left on the scrapheap are now earning money, paying taxes and supporting their families."
