BULWELL martial arts instructor Lucci Del-Gaudio is planning a special seminar to discourage young people from carrying knives.
Lucci (33), of Newmarket Road, is greatly concerned about a current spate of knife crime, both in Nottingham and across the rest of the country.

He said the full impact was brought home to him while he was working as a club doorman in Nottingham.

"I helped a 21-year-old victim of a knife attack who had bood and tears streaming down his face," said Lucci. "It was something I am never likely to forget."

He wants to stage his anti-knife seminar as soon as possible at the Sport Nottingham martial arts complex, next to Notts County Football Club's Meadow Lane ground.

Said Lucci: "Carrying knives has become a cult thing and if the toughest kid on the street has one, he becomes a role model.

"Among a lot of youngsters, knives are now an accessory like mobile phones."

Lucci was inspired to take up martial arts as a youngster when he saw the famous kung fu film, 'Enter The Dragon,' starring Bruce Lee.

"Martial arts promote self-discipline and respect," he added. "Anyone who practises martial arts never looks for trouble, in fact walks away from it, and will only use these skills as a last resort."
