YOUNGSTERS of Bulwell St Mary's Church Of England Primary School have been tickling their tastebuds with some international cuisine this week.
With the help of former Gordon Ramsay chef James Crossman, food from different countries has been put on the school menu.

Themed days included Afro-Caribbean Day and a session dedicated to Polish food.

Attention was then switched to Spanish food and the week is being rounded off with British food.

James, who worked with Gordon Ramsay at his restaurant in Claridge's Hotel, London hails from Nottingham and is now head chef at the Season restaurant in Beeston.

Every morning, the pupils have had a chance to taste the food of the day and to discuss ingredients and how the food is made.

The Food Week gave the youngsters a chance to look at eating healthily and choosing healthy options which focus on good-quality fresh local ingredients to combat obesity.

The week was organised by Nottingham City Council's catering team and St Mary's head teacher Phil Ball, while the food has been cooked by catering supervisor Lynn Allen and her team at the school.

"The children and staff have all been very enthusiastic about the project," said Mr Ball.

The week began with a competition in which the pupils devised different types of smoothies with fruit donated by The Fruit Bowl on Woodborough Road, Mapperley.

The two favourites were made up and put to the vote to see which was the best.
