£10,000 cash boost for charity thanks to councillor

A MEDICAL charity has received a £10,000 boost — thanks to a Dispatch district councillor.

This was the amount which Coun Patricia Andrews raised during her year as Mayor of Gedling.

Coun Andrews (Con) represents Linby, Papplewick and Newstead on the borough council.

She presented a cheque to the National Health Service (NHS) Hospitals Trust for the Prostate Cancer Awareness and Cure charity.

Coun Andrews organised a number of events to raise the money, including quizzes, a micro brewery visits and a ‘Wartime Past and Present’ even

“I chose the charity to raise the profile of a disease that kills 10,000 men a year,” said Coun Andrews.

The illness has affected Coun Andrews personally as two close members of her family have been diagnosed with the disease.

She wants the government to review current health practices so that all men over 50 are tested for prostate cancer.
