Beware cold-calling sticker scam

COLD CALLERS have been reported as trying to sell stickers to ironically prevent like-minded people from calling at homes across the district.

Salespeople have been knocking on doors to sell stickers so residents can display a message that cold callers are not welcome.

Hucknall residents are being reminded that stickers are available for FREE from Nottinghamshire County Council’s Trading Standards department.

“It is very ironic that these salespeople selling no cold caller stickers are cold callers themselves,” said Coun Mick Murphy, chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Community Safety Committee.

“We advise people not to buy from cold callers to avoid getting involved in a potential scam and are offering free stickers which people can place on their door or front window to warn off door-to-door salespeople.”

These stickers are being offered to people at a cost of £1 each despite them being available from the county council without charge.

For a free sticker please call the county council’s Trading Standards team on 01623 452005 or email trading.standards@nottscc.gov.uk with the subject ‘doorstep stickers’ and your name and address.

The council’s Buy with Confidence directory has 370 local traders which have been vetted and approved by local Trading Standards officers.
