Bus driver’s ticket to top awards

A BUS driver from Bulwell is hoping she is on the right toad to follow in her husband’s footsteps by scooping a prestigious nationwide industry award.

ELAINE ALLITT (pictured) has been shortlisted for the title of Top National Bus Driver at the UK Bus Awards — three years after husband Barry took top honours in the same competition.

Both work for Trent Barton, which runs services in Hucknall, and according to the firm’s commercial director, Alex Hornby, excellence must run in the family.

“With a smile for everyone, Elaine never fails to do her customers, her company or her industry proud,” he explained.

“A model employee, she works hard to promote our charity efforts and nothing is too much trouble for her when it comes to delighting customers.”

The winners of the UK Bus Awards will be announced during a special lunch at the London Hilton Hotel in Park Lane on November 20.

On reaching the shortlist, Elaine — who drives Radcliffe line and xprss buses — commented: “I’m delighted to have made it to the final and it would be nice to have matching awards on the mantelpiece at home!

“Whether I win or not, it’s nice to be recognised for doing a job I love.”

Elaine is joined on the shortlist by another Trent Barton driver, Allan Gilmour, and the firm itself is in the running for a Marketing Excellence Award for its MANGO smartcard and the Making Buses a Better Choice Award for the development of its rapid 1 service.
