Cheaper way to contact council about services

HUCKNALL residents are set to benefit from a new, cheaper customer-service telephone number to get in touch with Notts County Council.

Anyone calling the council about any of its 500 services will now be saving money with the new phone line compared to the old service.

The current customer call-centre number of 08449 808080 will be replaced with 0300 5008080 from Monday November 5. The 0300 number has been introduced by OFCOM, the telecoms watchdog, to make it cheaper for customers to contact not-for-profit organisations like the council.

“At Nottinghamshire County Council we’re all about offering value for money public services,” said Coun Martin Suthers (Con), deputy leader of the county council. “ The new 0300 dialling codes have been purposefully introduced to make it cheaper for people to contact their public services, with one flat call rate.

“It makes sense for the county council to revise its contact number to reflect this change and to pass on the call savings to local residents.

Calls to the 0300 number from mobiles and landlines are charged at the same rate as a local number and are also included in inclusive minutes on many mobile tarrif schemes, meaning that some calls are even free of charge.

Coun Suthers added: “Our customer service centre is open very flexible hours - from 8am-8pm weekdays and on Saturday mornings. But if that’s not convenient, you can get in touch with us 24/7 using our website, www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk .”
