FUNDRAISERS at Bulwell’s St Mary’s Church pulled out all the stops to ensure the success of its annual Christmas fair, which brought in a rewarding sum of £1,600.

An ever willing army of volunteers gave full support to the church’s social committee which, down the years, has proved to be a wonderful asset and teamwork, which has always been a strength at ‘the church on the hill’, shone through.

Church leader Father Andy Nicolls and his clergy colleague, curate the Rev Elizabeth Wild extended a warm welcome to scores of people as they searched for Christmas bargains.

There was a wide array of stalls with cakes, bric-a-brac, knitted goods, pluck-a-duck, prize draw, soft toys, books and toiletries being snapped up by the numerous visitors.

A delightful Christmas grotto, manned by Santa (Thomas Dyer) and his team of magical elves, was visited by scores of wide-eyed children eager to tell of their secret desires.

Children were all greeted by a number of colourful elves ready to lead them into the grotto and see Father Christmas.

Church stalwarts Jill and Robert Naylor expressed their thanks to everyone who had played a part in the event’s success.

“We were very pleased and delighted with how much money was raised on the day,” said Jill.

“We knew from the lovely atmosphere and the amount of people who came along on the day who were happy and willing to support our cause, that it was a success.

“It was also wonderful that so many people gave their help to the event in advance as well as on the day.”
