Community art project flies flag for Hucknall
HUCKNALL’S community spirit is being challenged as part of a nationwide art campaign.
The Big Draw is hoping to bring communities together through an art project in October, and Hucknall already has plans in place.
‘Flying the Flag for Hucknall’ will be staff from the town’s Market Place Children’s Centre, who are just one of a number of groups set to take part in the event.
The aim of the initiative is to get everybody together through drawing and creative sessions.
It is open to all ages and it doesn’t matter whether you are a complete novice or could pass on your talents to others.
“In Hucknall, individual groups will be creating bunting using waterproof markers and recycled banners. These have been donated by local businesses,” explained a project spokesman.
“These will then be displayed outside their own premises and around Hucknall Market Place and the surrounding areas throughout the half-term holiday (Monday October 22-Friday October 26). It is hoped these will create a highly-visible piece of community art.”
In addition to this, artists will be running free workshops in The Gallery (opposite Market Place) from 10am-4pm every day from Saturday October 20 – Saturday October 27.
There will be a range of different activities for all ages (children and adults).
The Hucknall project has been made possible thanks to a successful £2,000 funding bid to Notts Arts Fund, with contributions from Hucknall National Church of England Academy’s Out of School Club and Notts County Council’s arts department.
Many groups locally have already signed up to take part, including children’s centres, schools, Ashfield District Council, after school clubs, Hucknall Library, churches, youth service, HucknallRotary Club, local businesses and local artists.
