Council puts the kettle on for World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

FUNDRAISERS from across the Dispatch district downed tools to take part in the Macmillan Cancer Care’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

The initiative first started back in 1990 as a small gathering of fundraisers but has become the biggest event on Macmillan’s calendar, raising more than £60 million nationwide.

It is hoped that following on from last year’s success when £10 million was collected, this year could be the best yet.

Staff at Ashfield District Council joined in the fun and held their own event at the council’s Kirkby headquarters.

It was civic secretary Amanda Clifton who organised the event and is pictured with Ashfield District Council chairman Coun Ken Knight (Lab), left, of Hucknall, who is enjoying a coffee and piece of cake with deputy chief executive Dave Greenwood.

“It was a real team effort by a large number of staff who contributed by baking cakes or buying them on the day,” said a council spokesman. “And we managed to raise £430 from the event.” — DISPIC NHUD12-2531-1
