Lunches group raises thousands for charity

A GROUP of ‘unsung heroes’ from Hucknall’s Central Methodist Church have helped to raise thousands of pounds for local and national charities by providing tasty lunches — every Friday for the last 30 years!

Jill Daft is the driving force behind the volunteers, the ranks of whom include team leaders Hazel Wilson, Margaret Craig, Mary Reason and Christine Kieran.

Teamwork is essential to the success of the Friday Lunches Group, whose attention to detail, preparation and varied menu choices have caught the eye of the environmental health authority, which is bound by law to monitor organisations and businesses handling food.

Such is the quality of meals on offer at the Baker Street Church that Jill and her volunteers have earned a top five-star rating from the official grading body, which has granted the initiative a food hygiene certificate.
