Swishing party at hotel cashes in for guide dogs
A SWISHING Party held at Annesley’s Holiday Inn Hotel has raised £200 for the Guide Dogs For the Blind charity.
The event was the first one held by the organisation as a way of creating cash for the worthy cause and attracted people from across the district to mark Guide Dogs Week.
The idea behind ‘Swishing’ is to bring five items of clothing to the sale in exchange for tokens that you can cash in for alternative fashions.
“It went really well,” said community engagement officer for Guide Dogs, Vicky Coleman. “The people who attended the event really enjoyed it and it was a bit elbows at dawn but all in good fun.
“It was well attended considering the location of the hotel, who very kindly gave us the room free of charge. This was our first Swishing event so we can learn some lessons from this and improve for future events.
“We hope to incorporate children’s clothing next time as we realise there is a big market for second-hand kids’stuff as they grow out of clothes so fast.”
The fundraiser was supported by a number of stalls who were selling candles, jewellery and beauty products to enhance the occasion.
