Tram lands top award

HUCKNALL and Bulwell’s tram network has scooped a prestigious national award.

Nottingham Express Transit (NET) has been named as joint UK ‘Project Of The Year’ at the 2012 Light Rail Awards in London.

Judges were impressed by NET’s approach in funding the £570 million development, including the use of the controversial Workplace Parking Levy.

An extension of the network will see new lines to Clifton and Chilwell.

The award was presented by Transport Minister Norman Baker to Roger Harrison, chairman of Tramlink Nottingham, and Chris Deas, project director of Nottingham City Council.

Mr Harrison said: “We are delighted that to have received this award.”
