HUCKNALL residents who received a ‘meals on wheels’ delivery on Monday took part in a world record attempt as part of National Community Meals Week 2012.

It is hoped the bid to serve as many people as possible in a three-hour period will raise awareness of the service nationwide.

County Enterprise Foods provide meals in the Dispatch district and county-wide on behalf of Notts County Council.

“We did our bit to boost the national figures by delivering hundreds of the same meals to people across the county,” said Coun Kevin Rostance (Con), a Hucknall member of the county council and chairman of its adult social care and health committee.

Those people who took part received a menu of roast beef, potatoes and vegetables with a pudding favourite of apple crumble and custard.

The aim was to serve as many customers as possible on Monday up and down the country to get into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The initiative was co-ordinated by the National Association of Care Catering, the aim of which is to draw attention to the importance of this service and to highlight messages such as security and safety in the home and healthy living.

The ‘meals on wheels’ scheme enables many disabled or housebound people to remain in their own homes long after they would otherwise have been hospitalised or taken into residential care.

It can also act as a lifeline to many housebound residents who may not see anyone all day except the person who delivers their meal.

A spokesman from the National Association of Care Catering added: “National Community Meals Week works tirelessly to show residents the immense value of the service.”
