Heroic soldiers say thanks to pub

IT was only supposed to have been a straightforward charity cheque presentation.
But an impressive contingent of 15 soldiers flocked to Hucknall's Green Dragon pub, making it an occasion to remember.
A fundraising effort organised by Dragon regular Heather O'Brien had yielded £600 to support the Army's 'Help For Heroes' charity for wounded soldiers who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The cheque was received by Major Richard King, commander of the Bulwell-based South Notts Hussars unit of the Territorial Army (TA), and Major Denlee Rhodes, the TA's area recruitment officer for Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
Nottinghamshire 'Help For Heroes' fundraiser Alexander Nall also took part in the presentation ceremony.
Two members of the Hussars who have served in Iraq – Sgt Jason King, of Mansfield, and Dan Burton, of Hucknall – as well as new recruit Charlotte Richardson (21), also of Hucknall, were among those present.
Coun John Wilmott, a Hucknall Labour member of Ashfield District Council, said he was delighted to have been invited.
"I could not imagine a more worthy charity because the soldiers put their lives on the line for us," he added.
