PROBLEM car-cruisers in the Dispatch district could soon be a thing of the past — thanks to a landmark conviction.
Cruising 'boy racers' have congregated near junction 27 of the M1 at Annesley and on Hucknall bypass, causing danger for other road-users and making excessive noise.
Last June, the police and Notts County Council responded to concerns from local residents by winning a court-injunction that banned drivers of five or more cars gathering together or driving in convoy and causing disruption.
Now a Mansfield Woodhouse man has become the first driver to be convicted of breaching that injunction.
Adam Barnfather (18) was given a 28-day custodial sentence, suspended until June 2009, and ordered to pay court costs of £250.
Coun Glynn Gilfoyle (Lab), the county council's Cabinet member for community safety and partnerships, said: "We are pleased with this ruling as it sends out a clear warning to other car-cruisers in Nottinghamshire that the courts will not tolerate breaches of our injunction.
"We will continue to monitor and enforce the injunction in partnership with the police."
