THIRSTY ale-drinkers should head to three pubs in the Dispatch district featured in the Campaign For Real Ale's (CAMRA) 'Good Beer Guide 2009.'
Taking their place in the guide are the Horse and Groom pub in Main Street, Linby, Hucknall's Green Dragon on Watnall Road and the Station Hotel in Newstead.
CAMRA launched the 36th edition of the guide this week. It features the best 4,500 real ale pubs in Britain, according to campaign members.
Pubs are surveyed by local CAMRA beer experts and scored on a variety of aspects.
These include quality of the real ale, customer service, value for money, decor and the mix of age groups using the pub.
The Horse and Groom is described as a 'charming and unspoilt village pub dating back to 1800.'
Its positive aspects are listed as an inglenook in the public bar, the snug and roaring open fires.
The guide lists four regular ales as Greene King IPA, Old Speckled Hen, Theakston Mild and Wells Bombardier, as well as ever-changing guest ales.
Landlady Carol Wilson said: "We are proud to be in the 'Good Beer Guide' again. We have been in it regularly over the years and it is a commendation for our beer.
"My husband, David, is very proud of his selection of ales and he is especially delighted that the pub is featured in the guide."
The guide, something of a bible for beer drinkers, says of the Green Dragon: 'this traditional hostelry offers five ever-changing hand-pulled beers.'
It also tells readers of the different rooms in the pub and the different events held throughout the week, including karaoke, quizzes, pool tournaments and darts-league matches.
And the Station Hotel, on Station Road, also receives a glowing recommendation.
The guide says: 'Enjoying a new lease of life with the advent of the Robin Hood Line from Nottingham to Worksop, this traditional railway-station pub is steeped in atmosphere. Once part of a busy colliery village, it retains a community feel.'
Locals are described as 'quick to make visitors welcome', while staff 'greet you as old friends.'
The Station has two hand-pulled beers available from the Oakwell brewery that are always in 'tip-top condition.'
It is also described as a favourite meeting place for CAMRA branch members.
'Good Beer Guide' editor, Roger Protz, said: "This is Britain's original number one, independent guide to good beer and pubs.
"The CAMRA members work tirelessly to survey the pubs each year to make sure the reader gets the most updated guide to the best pubs in Britain."
