THE AMAZING 85-year-old woman, exposed by the Dispatch as someone who has never officially existed, has got engaged – again!
Jane Doe's partner, Cyril Clements (78), popped the question in a romantic Valentine's Day meal at the Old Moor Lodge restaurant in Nuthall.
Cyril, affectionately known as 'Clem', presented Jane with a new ring and the couple are now looking forward to their FOURTH wedding ceremony.
The pair, who now live in Hucknall, have set their wedding date for Wednesday May 20 – Jane's 86th birthday.
Jane has been involved in an amazing fight for her identity after it emerged that there was no official record of her life.
She only received her first passport two years ago.
They were due to get married over Christmas in a ceremony at Beaumaris, Anglesey. But in a fresh identity-wrangle, Jane wasn't paid any pension for nine weeks so they could not afford the ceremony.
The couple have had three previous marriage-ceremonies. But none of them were legally recognised by the authorities in this country because Jane was, technically, still married to someone else under a previous identity!
But, after the death of George Worrall, the man she wed in 1945 when she was known as Barbara Hall, this marriage will now be recognised legally.
Mr Worrall's death means Jane is a widow and free from any legal constraints the marriage to 'Clem' had placed on her.
Jane and 'Clem' have not decided where their ceremony will take place but he said: "I would love to go on a cruise and get married. That would be perfect."
The Dispatch reported last June on Jane as the woman who had never existed. She grew up with a couple she believed to be her parents. She then married and started a family.
But after 22 years of marriage in 1967, Jane discovered that there was no record of her ever being born. No birth certificate. No National Insurance number. No proof of identity.
This also meant her marriage to Mr Worrall was not recognised by law and her six children by him were illegitimate. Unable to cope with the shock, she walked out on her marriage and the children she loved, determined to find out who she was.
That same year, she met 'Clem' and they have been together ever since.
Jane was known by her married name of Barbara Worrall until 1995 when she changed it to Jane Doe by deed poll.
