Children take centre stage to save Christmas
YOUNGSTERS from a Hucknall school have been given the honour of taking centre stage as part of a prestigious annual Christmas concert.
The Magic of Christmas is organised by Notts Performing Arts and will celebrate its 29th anniversary when the curtain is raised at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham next Thursday (December 13, 7 pm)
The spotlight will shine on children from Hucknall National Primary School who are among the 265-strong cast.
An audience of hundreds of children and young people from schools in Hucknall and the rest of the county will join families, friends, teachers and colleagues to watch the production.
Notts Performing Arts is part of Notts County Council and the team helps young people from Year 3 to school leaving age to offer high quality performances and learning through enjoyment. The Christmas concert is one of its highlights.
The Magic of Christmas features the Red Hot Band, the Concert Band, Advanced Music Ensemble and Choir who will all be performing at the concert along with the Black Box Theatre Company.
And for the first time primary schools are being invited to take part.
The plot centres around an array of colourful characters striving to foil evil plans to steal all the children’s presents and spoil Christmas.
Some final-year design students from Nottingham Trent University have helped produce the costumes for this year’s show, and characters include The Grinch, Jack Frost, a Genie, Father Christmas and a Christmas Cracker.
Tracy James, Manager of Notts Performing Arts, at the county council, said: “This promises to be an evening of excitement and surprise; we have magical characters, illusions and some amazing music. The students have worked incredibly hard and are ready now for their audience to watch them work their magic.”
And Coun Philip Owen (Con), chairman of the children’s and young people’s committee at the county council, added: “This is a family occasion where everyone can join together to celebrate the Christmas Season with plenty of enthusiastic audience participation.
“It is a great opportunity for everyone to see outstanding young performers demonstrating their talents and skill in music, drama and singing.”
Rehearsals have been taking place for the performance at both the Old Library in Mansfield, and in community rooms hired from The Minster School in Southwell.
