SEVERAL members of Hucknall Wine Circle won awards at the Nottingham Beer and Wine Festival.
They included — Eddie Morris with two third places for his aperitif dry and dessert white and a highly commended sweet citrus; Len Cantrill in second place with his aperitif dry; Harry Brown, who took third place with his social white; Alan Fisher with a highly commended dessert white; Tess Fisher in third place with a marmalade cake; and Kath Cantrill with a highly commended marmalade cake.
At the group’s latest meeting, a competition for a table red wine was won by Alan Fisher, with John Chilton runner-up. A nostalgic discussion then followed on wartime food and rationing, which stirred many childhood memories for most members.
The next meeting is on Monday when the group will be tasting commercial wines and comparing them to home-made wines.
