CELEBRATIONS to mark the 35th (coral) anniversary of Hucknall Flower Arranging Group were discussed at its annual general meeting.
The group was formed in February 1977. Chairman Hazel Abbott reported that she has already received congratulatory cards from the national chairman and the north Midlands area of the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies (NAFAS).
In her annual report, the chairman reflected on last year’s activities, talks, demonstrations, outings and workshops. She thanked the committee for their hard work and the members for their continued interest and support.
After a break for refreshments, including anniversary cake, Jean Fordham, a member of the group who is hoping to become a demonstrator, tried out her skills by arranging two designs. The theme for her creations was fashion.
The first was inspired by 1960s designer Mary Quant and had four placements, using two black containers and two white containers, black and white canes, white chrysanthemums and orange roses.
The second display was a tall, flowing pedestal-style design, which included animal-print fabric, pampas grass fronds and a variety of flowers and foliage.
The group’s next meeting is set to be held on Wednesday March 7 when Janine Hall’s demonstration will be entitled ‘Where Rabbits Dream’. New members and visitors are welcome.
