HUCKNALL ROUND TABLE has spoken of its honour at being shortlisted for two prizes at the prestigious Pride of Mansfield and Ashfield Awards.

The long-standing organisation was a runner up in both the Best Community Group and the Fundraiser Of The Year categories at an event laid on by the Dispatch’s sister paper, the ‘Mansfield Chad’.

Lee Freeley, who is current vice-chairman of the Table but is due to take the helm as chairman in April, said: “It is nice to get the recognition.

“For me, the nominations were huge because it’s an acceptance into the community. People recognise who we are and are becoming more educated as to what we do.”

Hucknall Round Table, which was formed in 1957, is based on providing social activities for its members, who meet at various venues every two weeks.

But all this is underpinned by relentless fundraising. Two of its main events are a Santa’s Sleigh tour and charity collection which, last year, raised £4,100, and a Children In Need campaign, which collected £2,500 in 2011.

It is currently inviting applications from community groups who would like financial backing and is also running a competition, open to local schools, to create a mascot for the Table. The closing date is Tuesday April 10. Ring Mr Freeley on 079711 87595.
