BLOOD pressure checks were one of the activities taking place at Hucknall Rotary Club’s Stroke Awareness Event.

The annual activity is run in conjunction with the Hucknall and Linby St John Ambulance who carry out the health checks in a bid to prevent and highlight the causes of strokes.

“We had around 80 visitors during the morning,” said club president Ian Young. “As well as the blood pressure checks, information was also handed out to let people know the signs to look out for.”

Numbers were down at this year’s event, which was held at Hucknall’s Central Methodist Church, but feedback suggested that GP surgeries are being more proactive in carrying out blood pressure monitoring.

“We will continue to make this a yearly diary date,” added Ian. “With eight per cent of those people visiting us on the day being referred to their GPs for further tests, it is definitely worthwhile.”
