Siblings dance their way to glory

DETERMINED siblings Emma Mawbey and her brother Ian are making the most of opportunities that come their way and are benefiting from their involvement with a Hucknall-based dance school which has brought them much pleasure over the years.

Emma (24) and Ian (21), who live on Beardall Street, Hucknall and previously attended Beardall Street Primary School in the town and Derrymount Special Needs School in Arnold, have spent the past few months rehearsing with the Marcia Jones School of Dance for a show at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham.

The pair did themselves proud in Step by Step XII, a dance extravaganza that delighted a packed audience.

Emma and Ian made impressive contributions performing a routine to music from Whitney Houston then to a Blues Brothers’ number before taking a final bow in the finale.

Emma, who works full-time, joined Marcia dance classes at Hucknall’s Central Methodist Church as a three year-old, while Ian, who has just finished studying at New College Nottingham, was also three when he took up dancing.

“I am very proud of them both,” said Marcia. “They are very special and have made tremendous progress over the years.

“They are a credit to my dance school and are very popular with the other dancers.”
