RECORDS were smashed into oblivion when members of HUCKNALL ANGLERS hooked more than half a ton of fish in an astonishing match last Sunday.
The star of the show at Jansen's Fishery in Elton, near Bingham, was overall winner Jonathan Leivers, who bagged an amazing total of 119lb – a full 28lb ahead of the club's previous individual best, set by Dave Gee (91-16) on the Big Lake at Hemington in Leicestershire last season.

Even more incredible was the fact that Leivers (34), of Sutton-in-Ashfield, hooked almost 300 fish in the five-hour match.

The top three weights all broke the previous club record with Terry Coltart recording 100-15 and secretary John Mardell 98-1. The average weight per competitor was a huge 63-8.

Mardell said: "It was just one of those days. At one stage, I was catching five fish a minute. It was completely out of the blue."

Other weights recorded were: Steve Edwards 86-1, Craig Radford 83-3, Steve Bowen 74-14, Dennis Hall 73-7, Arthur Daws 67-5, Gren Hill 65-9, Rob Daws 65-4, Derek Brough 53-3, Eric Mantle 52-15, Mick Evans 52-10, Brian Cross 44-3, Sharon Wright 38-2, Tom Bakewell 34-14, John Moore 23-1, Len Gill 16-1.

This Sunday's match is on the four-island lake at Portland Water, Sibthorpe, near Newark. Competitors are asked to meet at 8 am on the bank.
