Ex-pro among Town triallists

HAVE Hucknall Town unearthed a bit of the Spanish magic that landed the Euro 2008 Championships last weekend?
That's the question on the club's lips after new bosses Mick Galloway and Andy Miller took their first training sessions with the Town squad last Saturday and on Tuesday night.
For among the triallists on parade was an ex-professional who used to play in the lower levels of the Spanish League.
Town would not divulge his name – but sources suggests the mystery man is left-sided midfielder George Jermy, who has also been on the books of Norwich City and AFC Bournemouth.
Jermy, who impressed Galloway and Miller with his fitness last Saturday, featured for Norwich's youth side in 2003. He signed for Spanish side, CD Javea, in July 2006 after impressing in a trial.
He returned to England last year and had a short spell with Norwich United in the Ridgeons League, Premier Division (three levels below Hucknall) before ending the campaign at Wivenhoe Town in the same division, making two starts (plus one as substitute).
Galloway and Miller ran the rule over more than a dozen triallists in all, plus their three new signings and four players from last season and were pleased with what they saw.
The triallists also included local prospect David Marlow, former Yellows Mark Smith, Kelvin Mushambie, Martyn Burke and Roderick Maveso-Mputu, plus young goalkeeper Michael Chapman.
They joined Danny Bacon, Joe Ward, Pete Knox and Gary Sucharewycz, as well as three of the club's new boys, Paul Mitchell, Jay Smedley and Matt McKenzie.
Striker Gary Ricketts, midfielder Laurie Wilson, defender Nathan Winder and goalkeeper James Lindley were on holiday.
Midfielder Marlow (27) played for Heanor Town in the Central Midlands League (same level as Rolls-Royce Leisure) last season.
Ex-Chesterfield right-winger Smith (24) was in the Town side, under Dean Barrick, that enjoyed a magical FA Trophy run in 2004/05 and played in the final at Villa Park.
But he made only nine starts the following season before leaving to join Belper Town.
Pacy Zimbabwean striker Mushambie (32) was with Town previously when snapped up by Phil Starbuck in April 2003 after he arrived in Nottingham as an asylum-seeker from his home country.
Mushambie left The Yellows six months later to join near rivals Eastwood Town on loan. And aside from a short spell at Belper in 2005/06, he has been with The Badgers ever since.
In his younger days, he played for Zimbabwe's under-23 and under-21 national sides.
Youth product Burke was in the first-team squad during the 2005/06 season but made only a handful of appearances, while Chapman (18), of Sheffield, is looking to impress after being released by Mansfield Town.
Town kept the names of the other triallists close to their chest. But commercial manager Simon Matters said: "The sessions were very positive and Mick and Andy are looking forward to the rest of pre-season.
"The triallists will get a chance in the pre-season games and then, on July 27, Mick and Andy will probably decide who they want to keep.
"For the final three pre-season games, they will have their squad that will start the Blue Square North season. The club have received a lot of calls from players offering their services and Mick and Andy have been working hard to pick those they think will add something to their side."
