TEENAGE starlet Luke Fletcher will miss Papplewick and Linby's big game to take the next step on the ladder to stardom with a call-up to the England Under-19s squad.
Fletcher (19), who lives in Bulwell, has starred in a handful of one-day games for Notts CCC this season after being handed a one-year contract at Trent Bridge.
And those performances have caught the eye of the England selectors, who picked him for the three-day game against Bangladesh A at Loughborough on Sunday.
Fletcher cannot wait for the experience and feels his promotion to the Notts senior squad for the one-dayers has helped his cause.
"I am very excited," said Fletcher. "The call-up came as a complete surprise.
"It is a massive thing to play for your country and everyone dreams of opportunities like this. I have been smiling all summer and enjoying my cricket and I will continue to do so.
"I have really settled in at Notts and to get this call-up puts the icing on the cake.
"We will be up against players who have played Test cricket for Bangladesh. There will be players who want to get back in their Test side and players who are looking to impress.
"It will be a tough test but it will be a great experience to see how good we actually are."
Fletcher will be joined in the squad by Notts teammate and friend Alex Hales, which he believes is a huge bonus.
"Having someone you know there makes a difference," he said. "It helps you relax and settle in better. But I am also looking forward to getting to know the other lads."
Fletcher also reserved praise for his captain at Papplewick and bowling coach at Notts, former England Test ace Phil DeFreitas.
"Being around Phil is such a good thing," said Fletcher, "He is such a big help because he works with me a lot.
"Little things he says make such a difference and his attitude is first-class."
Fletcher added that he is determined to carry on to bigger things after his impressive debut season in first-class cricket.
He said: "I don't think people expected me to do as well as I have. But everything being said to me is positive and encouraging.
"The main thing for me is that I am positive about my cricket and that I carry on enjoying it, just like I have done this year."
