HUCKNALL'S Andy Turner has gone out in the Second Round of the 110m hurdles at the Olympics in Beijing by the agonising margin of just two one-hundredths of a second.
The 27-year-old finished in a disappointing fifth place in heat two in the 'bird's nest' National Stadium in Beijing in a time of 13.53 seconds.

He was still in with an outside chance of being one of the fastest losers and qualifying for the semi-finals tomorrow.

But when the dust settled after the fourth and final heat, news filtered through that the British number one had missed out.

He was pipped to the fourth and final fastest loser spot by the man just ahead of him in his heat – France's Samuel Coco-Viloin.

Had Turner produced anything near his personal best of 13.27 seconds, he would have breezed into the semis as the fourth fastest overall.

The winner of the heat was Cuba's world-record holder, Dayron Robles, in a time of 13.19 seconds.

It means a second Olympic disappointment for the man who grew up on Nottingham Road after he exited in the First Round in Athens, Greece four years ago after another injury-plagued preparation.

Things had started so well after Turner had qualified behind Robles in second spot in his heat in the First Round.
