A HUCKNALL pensioner who was born in the same year as actor John Wayne is still shooting from the hip — after celebrating her 104th birthday.
Beatrice Harvey (pictured) came into the world on September 21 1907. She marked her landmark birthday at the Hallcroft Care Home, on Croft Avenue, Hucknall, where she has lived for the last seven years.
One of the oldest people in the Dispatch district, she was joined by her two daughters, Edith Turner and Maureen Webster, son Albert Harvey, some of her five grandchildren and several of her great grandchildren.
All-round entertainer Frankie Fortune took part in the celebrations with singing, comedy and ventriloquism.
Beatrice received dozens of cards, while her family made a special birthday cake. A tea was laid on for the residents.
The 104-year-old was born in Kimberley and once worked at a leather factory in Giltbrook. She lived in the Annesley Lodge care home in Hucknall before moving to Hallcroft in 2004.
Her husband, Samuel, died in 1991 at the age of 83. The couple had been married for 60 years.
Emmeline Bingham, manager of Hallcroft, said: “It was lovely.
“I think Beatrice and the residents really enjoyed the celebration. Beatrice was surrounded by her family.” — DISPIC NHUD11-2463-2.
