CELEBRATIONS to mark the centenary of All Saints Church in Annesley re-opening are in full bloom.
For a three-day flower festival has been held at the historic church.

Back in January 1907, the original building was severely damaged by fire. After restoration, which cost £4,750, it was finally re-opened in February 1909.

To mark this, the flower festival was given the theme 'New Beginnings'.

Seventeen arrangements filled the church with colour. They were created by local volunteers, congregation members, Heanor Flower Club and the Annesley And District Women's Institute.

There were also 18 pew-end arrangements dedicated to loved ones who have died.

Other attractions included stalls, refreshments and a 52-key Marenghi Dutch street-organ to provide entertainment.

About £3,800 was raised. This will be ploughed into church funds.

Geoff Mason, who is a member of the parochial church council, said: "It was a good memorial to those who have kept the church going for the last 100 years.

"It was also a fitting tribute to those who helped to rebuild the church.

"Thanks must go to local businesses who provided sponsorship money to buy flowers for the arrangements."

Future events planned to mark the centenary include a celebratory garden party in the grounds of Felley Priory in the village on Saturday August 15 (3 pm to 5 pm).

There will also be a concert by the Bluecoat Singers at the church on Saturday September 26 (7 pm). The event will feature songs from the shows.

Anyone interested in visiting the church can do so on Wednesdays from 1.30 pm until 3 pm.
