AN ENERGETIC event for young people provided a fun-filled finale to a week of action designed to boost an estate in Hucknall.
The five-day initiative tackled everything from graffiti to fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour in the Ruffs area of the town.

It was hailed a huge success, with a major achievement being the collection of EIGHT TONNES of unwanted furniture, waste and rubbish by Ashfield District Council.

But the highlight was a youth-inclusion day held at Hucknall Leisure Centre.

More than 80 visitors took part in the event, which was organised by the town's safer neighbourhood policing team.

A popular feature was the chance to work with a graffiti artist. Youngsters painted pictures of pumpkins, skulls and Frankenstein on large boards with the message 'No Tricks, Just Treats This Hallowe'en'.

Their work was displayed in the nearby Tesco superstore, who have agreed to use the artwork every Hallowe'en.

Other attractions included boxing demonstrations, sumo wrestling, football and street dance.

The Army took their climbing wall along to put youngsters through their paces. While advice was given on firework safety by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Nicola Wood, who helped organise the event, said: "We have had some great feedback from the young people who went along and our partners who worked with them.

"All the activities allowed the young people to have fun, work as part of a team and build their confidence while also educating them about the negative effects of anti-social behaviour and drugs and alcohol.

"We would like to thank everyone who went along and our partners for their support. Hopefully, we will be able to organise a similar event in future after the success of this one."
