Appeal gave boost to blood stocks for London 2012

THANKS to an appeal for more donors, blood stocks have been replenished across the Dispatch district and beyond to meet the increased demand over the summer.

As part of a drive to encourage more people to donate blood because of an expected need placed on supplies due to the Olympics, the public has responded positively.

Jayne Torvill, who helped raise awareness of the appeal as part of ‘Team Give Blood’ alongside Gary Lineker, Graham Bell and Sarah Beeny, said: “It’s inspiring to see how people have pulled together to be part of this Team Give Blood effort to push blood stocks up and make sure our health services are well prepared for this extraordinary summer of events.”

Jon Latham, of the Blood Service, said: “We want to say a huge thankyou to all the donors. We do need to maintain this higher level of stock right through to September, so please do keep donating throughout August to help see us through to the end of the Paralympics in September.”
