COMMUNITY groups and schools in the Dispatch district are being encouraged to branch out and apply for a tree-planting grant.
The scheme, which is run by the Greenwood Community Forest, provides funding and advice for organisations wanting to carry out small tree-planting projects.
The initiative, which has been running for more than a decade, has helped more than 100 schools and groups to plant thousands of trees.
Grants are offered up to £250 to cover the cost of buying trees, shelters, tree stakes and ties.
To be eligible, a project must be planting native trees or shrubs, involve a school or the local community and be located on school grounds or publicly-accessible land.
Applications are available from the Greenwood team by calling 0115 9772188 or logging on at firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline is Friday December 16.
