BULWELL’s Labour MP Graham Allen will find out whether or not he is a golden shot when he represents his Nottingham North constituency at an archery challenge in Westminster.
Mr Allen is set to take up bow and arrow for the chance to win a sports-themed prize, which he would donate to a local group.
The MP will receive training from top national coaches and face off against other MPs vying for the top place on the leaderboard at the event on Monday September 5.
He said: “I am delighted to see archery on the Parliamentary estate. Archery is a thrilling sport and one that is intimately linked to the identity of Nottingham.
“To see Great Britain succeed in the London Olympics next year in this sport would be a very proud moment for this Nottinghamshire tradition. To bring it for the afternoon to the centre of Westminster will be an absolute delight.”
Mr Allen said he wanted Nottingham to host the archery tournament at next year’s Olympic Games.
“The council should set an ambition for Nottingham to host the Archery World Championships,” he added. “What better place for the headquarters of Archery GB and a national training centre?”
