Parks across the Ashfield district have been awarded the coveted Green Flag Award for their quality green spaces.

Residents, volunteers, staff and councillors from across the region are celebrating after receiving the recognition for their efforts in retaining six Green Flag Awards at the district’s main parks and green spaces.

To mark the occasion representatives attended flag raising ceremonies in a number of parks to proudly display their achievements.

“Ashfield has lots of wonderful parks and open spaces for local people to enjoy,” said Leader of the Council Chris Baron. “I am really pleased that six of them have retained this coveted award”

The parks which received the award are Titchfield Park, Hucknall, Sutton Lawn, Brierley Forest Park and Portland Park and Kingsway Park, Kirkby. Selston Golf Course is awaiting confirmation.

The parks have been recognised through the national award scheme for the best green spaces in the country. The award focuses on eight criteria including cleanliness, sustainability and conservation. A record 1,266 Green flag awards were awarded this year, 89 of which were awarded to green spaces in the East Midlands.
