A SPECIAL award has been created in honour of a teacher who has retired after 25 years’ service at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Primary School in Hucknall.

Linda Dennis (59) brought the curtain down on her career at the Leen Mills Lane school at the end of the summer term.

But she will be remembered with the help of a trophy that will be given each year to a pupil in recognition of their achievements at the school.

“It is quite an honour”, said Linda, who is married to Paul and lives on Hayden Lane, Hucknall.

Linda has taken early retirement in order to spend more time with her family. She has three daughters — Nicola Kerry, Emma Jamison and Krista Dennis — and two grand-daughters, Freya and Neve, who are both one.

“I plan to spend plenty of time with my family,” said Linda. “That is what has brought on the retirement really — family commitments.

“But I will definitely miss my work, especially the children. I have had a wonderful time at Holy Cross, which is an excellent school.

“I have made many friends and will probably pop back in on a regular basis.”

To mark her retirement, there was also a special assembly that featured a talk given by head teacher Pat Snowdon.

The kitchen made a special cake and Linda was showered with gifts, including cards made by the children.
