HUCKNALL’S Marshall Band and vocalist Phil Rostance might have thought they were skating on thin ice when they got involved in a special charity project.

But all went well when they joined forces with Nottingham Panthers ice-hockey team at Nottingham Arena to produce a Christmas video and recording.

The Panthers members sang in the chorus and the aim was to raise money for the Nottingham Breast Cancer charity.

The band had become friends of the Panthers as the result of a radio project two years ago, so the initiative came as a natural follow-up.

Well-known Hucknallite Ben Marshall, after whom the band is named, said the choice of song was ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day’.

He added: “While most English people know the number well, a lot of the Panthers team are American or Canadian and the song was unfamiliar to them. But they joined in the spirit of the venture and we all had great fun.”

The band will perform at a Christmas party at the H2O Bar on Hucknall High Street tonight (Friday), followed by a sell-out gig at the town’s Rolls-Royce Leisure Club tomorrow night.
