Nottinghamshire residents with financial difficulties are being reminded of a telephone benefits advice service run by the County Council.
Since April the Council has gained an additional £70,000 in unclaimed benefits for residents who contacted the service, which is made up of four advisors based at the Council’s Customers Service Centre in Annesley.
Advisors help to identify entitled benefits that people may be unaware of, including pension credit, carer’s allowance, income support and attendance allowance.
In one case a resident gained an extra £9,770 per year in entitled benefits following support from an advisor.
It is expected that the service will help gain an extra £854,000 in benefits from April 2014 to March 2015 for local residents.
Coun Muriel Weisz, Chair of the Council’s Adult Social Care and Health Committee, said: “Whilst we can’t resolve every resident’s money problems, many people are not aware of the benefits that they are entitled to so are potentially losing thousands of pounds a year.
“Our advisors look at each person’s situation and will help explore avenues that they have not looked into.”
