A POLICE inspector, who was formerly the commander of Hucknall’s force, has been charged with committing sexual offences against a child.
Insp Russell Dew (44) is alleged to have engaged in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl and faces two counts.
Dew appeared at Sheffield Magistrates Court on Monday (August 1) and was remanded in custody.
The offences are alleged to have taken place in Newark during the last year.
His solicitor made an application for bail but it was refused. Dew is yet to enter a plea.
Dew, who has been suspended, was latterley based at Mansfield police station.
He became Hucknall’s police chief in 2008 and worked in the town for almost two years.
He was arrested by offices from Nottinghamshire Police’s professional standards unit and charged on Saturday (July 30).
Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Dew spent eight years with the Royal Navy before joining the Metropolitan Police.
