BULWELL MP Graham Allen has made it his mission to raise the profile of Nottinghamshire legend, Robin Hood.
Mr Allen has set up a meeting with the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, Maria Miller and Ted Cantle to go through the proposals to give Robin Hood the profile he deserves.
“We criminally under-exploit our global brand of Robin Hood and I’m delighted that the city is coming forward with some excellent proposals to put that right,” said Mr Allen. “Most cities in Britain would kill for such a well known historical figure as their trademark.”
Despite Nottingham Castle, Sherwood Forest and other areas across the county featuring the legendary man of Sherwood and his Merry Men, the Bulwell MP says this isn’t enough and more could be done to exploit the man in tights popularity worlwide and increase tourism to the area.
He added: “The spin-off in tourism, jobs and culture will be enormous. I hope that the government will join with Ted and all the other organisations in putting its weight behind this effort and meeting the Secretary of State will be the beginning of that process.”
The meeting will be held on January 14.
