Bulwell community stalwart and police volunteer Doreen Carruthers, has been awarded a British Empire Medal in the New Year’s Honours List.
The citation reads: “Ms Doreen Carruthers. Police Volunteer, Nottinghamshire Police. For services to the Police and community in Bulwell, Nottingham.
Councillor Jackie Morris, who sits on Nottingham City Council and knows of Doreen’s work, said: “She has done excellent work for the police force. Its good that someone from Bulwell has got something like this. It’s a big honour for Bulwell.”
Doreen is also a church steward and treasurer of the Ravensworth Road Methodist Church in Bulwell.
Bill Blackamore, from the Bulwell Forest Action Group, told the Dispatch: “She is a really nice person, working hard for the area and establishing a strong and robust Neighbourhood Watch scheme for Bulwell Forest.
“She is an unsung hero so this is a well-deserved honour.”
Chief Constable Chris Eyre, of Nottinghamshire Police said: “Every day our officers, staff and volunteers do incredible things to help support and police the communities around Nottinghamshire.
“I am immensely proud of the people who are receiving an award today as representatives of the force. Doreen is a well-known volunteer here and completely deserves the recognition.”
