Bulwell St Mary’s church’s popular Assistant Curate Elizabeth Wild has been ordained as a parish priest at a special ceremony in Southwell Minster, which was conducted by the Bishop of Southwell the Rt.Revd Paul Butler.

Supported by family members, church friends and clergy colleagues who studied with her at Theological College, Elizabeth made her vows along with eight other candidates.

Elizabeth gave up a promising career in clinical psychology to follow God’s calling and, after working as a Parish Assistant in Brighton, she underwent extensive training for the ministry at the South East Institute for Theological Education.

She is a member of the Iona community and is married to Michael and has four daughters. She took on the role of Assistant Curate at Bulwell St Mary’s a year ago,and as part of her ordination vows will continue to serve there for a further two year period.

Her supportive clergy colleague and friend Fr.Andy Nicolls said “ I am delighted to share in Elizabeth’s joy at being ordained. She has contributed so much to our church and to the local community and is a kind, caring person who will surely go on to greater things.”

Following Elizabeth’s ordination ceremony her “home church” held a service of celebration and a special picnic party in the church grounds as their tribute to “someone special”.

Elizabeth said: “I am a privileged person and will do all that I can to carry out God’s work wherever his calling takes me.

“I am grateful to my family and to everyone at Bulwell St Mary’s for all the support they have given.”
