A FORMER Bulwell schoolboy has scooped a prestigious award for helping keep Nottingham’s buses in tip-top condition.
Ryan Smith (18), pictured, joined bus firm Trent Barton nearly three years ago as a trainee mechanic.
Now the ex-pupil of the former River Leen Comprehensive School in Bulwell has been named the company’s Apprentice Of The Year as he prepares to start the final 12 months of his training.
Ryan, who works at Trent Barton’s Manvers Street garage in Nottingham, said: “I was amazed when I heard I’d been nominated for the award and I just couldn’t believe it when the winner was announced. I’ve always loved working with engines and getting my hands dirty, so this is a dream job for me.
“Trent Barton is a great place to work. I would like to thank the company for giving me this opportunity, along with everyone at the depot for taking the time to pass on their skills.” (PHOTO BY: Lionel Heap).
