A BEAUTIFUL oil painting of a butterfly has made JANET TILFORD the winner of an annual competition for members of Hucknall Art Society.

She was presented with a silver salver awarded annually by Coun Chris Baron, a Hucknall Labour member of Ashfield District Council.

Janet, who has won the award twice before, also received prizes of gift vouchers.

Coun Baron said: “The butterfly picture was so lifelike that it was unbelievable. I was really amazed.”

About 50 paintings were produced for the competition and Coun Baron said the standard of entries was once again remarkably high.

“It made me wish I had the time and patience to be an artist,” he added. “I greatly admire their talent.”

The society now meets at Watnall Road Community Centre in Hucknall every Wednesday at 7 pm for two hours and new members are always welcome.

The society has been presented with a grant of £250 from Ashfield Council’s community fund which will help members to stage exhibitions of their work.
