ALTHOUGH the International Byron Festival is based in Hucknall, the first two events this year took place outside the town.
Thirty Byron fans went on an outing to Burgage Manor in Southwell, where Byron lived from 1803 until 1808. Geoffrey Bond, who lives at the manor, spoke about Byron’s time there.
There was also a rare opportunity to view the house’s exquisite gardens, with a harpist providing aptly serene background music.
Last Friday’s other event was the first of three ‘Ghostly Tales of Annesley Hall’ tours. As always, the host was Dick Starr, who worked at the hall in his younger days. Fifty-eight people went on the ever-popular tour, and there were 12 helpers.
