A LIT candle will travel to Hucknall, Bulwell and further afield to highlight the 200th anniversary of church schools.
The special journey has been organised by the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham, with each school visited by the candle also organising its own celebration events.
The candle set off from Holy Trinity School in Southwell in January and will visit 58 schools in total by November.
It will arrive at St Mary’s Primary in Bulwell on Tuesday April 12 (1 pm), Hucknall National Primary on Thursday May 5 (1 pm), Hucknall National Comprehensive on Monday May 9 (10.20 am) and Linby-cum-Papplewick Primary on Thursday May 26 (2.45 pm).
To coincide with the celebrations, both the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham and the Bishop of Sherwood are visiting every church school in the diocese over the coming months when they will spend time with children in classrooms and join in assemblies.
The candle will return to The Minster School in Southwell ahead of an event open to all church schools at Southwell Minster on Saturday November 19 (2 pm).
Claire Meese, director of education for the diocese, said: “We’re delighted to be marking this special year. We have called the celebrations in our area ‘Burning Brightly: Carrying The Light Of Christ In Church Schools’.”
