Care-home cyclists on health drive

ON your bike! That’s the mantra adopted by residents who have thrown themselves into a health drive at a care home in Hucknall for adults with learning disabilities.

Tenants at Heathcotes on Watnall Road have taken up cycling around the town. Some have even bought their own bikes, which have become their pride and joy.

Adnan Naciri, who lives at Heathcotes, said: “I love my new bike. I can get around more, keep fit and have fun at the same time. It’s great.”

Allison Stafford, manager of Heathcotes, said: “It is great to see the guys being physically active and doing something they want to do.

“Let’s face it, who wants to stare at a wall while running on a treadmill or using an exercise bike when there is so much more fun to be had cycling around the local area.”

As part of the scheme, some residents have also taken part in a cookery course, which focused on healthy recipes. They passed with flying colours and received an apron and certificate to mark their achievement.
