The Little Roots Children’s Community Allotment group have received an award of £200 from The Mansfield Building Society’s Community Support Scheme.

The cash boost will go towards the cost of paving slabs for their allotment in Mansfield Woodhouse.

The allotment is regularly visited by local primary schools and groups from the Children’s Centre and they offer their ‘home grown’ produce to local families.

Anita Dean, secretary/trustee of Little Roots, said: “We are grateful to The Mansfield for helping with this particular project.

The paving slabs will improve the access to our recently acquired additional plot.

“Our aim is to involve older children from the local secondary school and college to grow produce on a larger scale”

Mandy Whitten, The Mansfield’s marketing co-ordinator, said: “We are very pleased to be able to help a charity that encourages local children to get involved in growing their own produce locally and promoting a healthier lifestyle.”
